Flower was a New York City indie rock band (June 1986 – 1990) formed by guitarist Richard Baluyut (later of Versus and Whysall Lane), singer/bassist Ian James (later of Cell and French), drummer Rob Hale (also later of Versus), and keyboardist Yosh Najita (formerly of synth band Groan Box). After recording the Crash EP with Kramer at Noise New York studios, Najita and Hale were replaced by Richard’s brother Edward Baluyut (also later of Versus) on guitar and Andrew Bordwin (later of Ruby Falls) on drums, and Richard began sharing lead vocal duties. Their final album Hologram Sky was not released domestically in the US, and Ian James was briefly replaced by Fontaine Toups before the band dissolved in 1990. Following the renewed interest in the band generated by the success of Toups and the Baluyuts in Versus, high profile indie label Simple Machines compiled all the band’s recordings (except Crash) into Concrete Sky in 1994, and the group reunited for some promotional shows

Devo (pronounced /ˈdiːvoʊ/ DEE-voh, originally /diːˈvoʊ/ dee-VOH) is an American New Wave band formed in Akron, Ohio in 1973. While they are best known for their 1980 hit “Whip It”, which made it to #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the band has succesfully maintained a cult following since early in their career. Their style over time has shifted variously between punk, art rock, post-punk, and New Wave.

Devo’s music and stage show mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary via sometimes-discordant pop songs that often feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures, and their work has proved hugely influential on subsequent popular music, particularly New Wave, industrial and alternative rock artists.

Total Devo was the seventh studio album by American New Wave band Devo. It was released in 1988 (see 1988 in music). It was the first Devo album that was recorded without drummer Alan Myers, who was replaced by former Sparks drummer David Kendrick. Many Devo fans consider this album to be the weakest of their catalog; however, this same disc has proven to be fairly accessible to many non-Devo fans due to the more polished electronic sound as well as the more introverted lyrics, many of which allude to a failed romantic relationship.

“The Shadow” has lyrics that contain numerous references to literary works (the chorus is partially lifted from T. S. Eliot’s poem The Hollow Men) and it incorporates the catchphrase from the serials following the character The Shadow (“Who knows what lurks in the hearts of men?/The shadow knows!”). “Some Things Never Change” (which also quotes The Beatles’ ‘A Day in the Life’) is used in Interplay’s computer game adaptation of Neuromancer.

“Disco Dancer” was remixed and released as a single and a music video, the latter of which, according to Gerald Casale in his commentary for The Complete Truth About De-Evolution laserdisc and DVD, failed to receive airplay after first being aired on MTV’s “Smash or Trash?” segment. Apparently it was “trashed” and MTV refused to air it after that.

Total Devo was the only Devo album to be released on DAT, as well as vinyl, cassette, and CD.

Edison is the long-time drummer for New York cult-garage band the Raunch Hands (Crypt Records) as well as being a collaborator of punk rocker GG Allin, with whom he wrote a number of songs and recorded two albums. He currently leads his own band, the Edison Rocket Train.

In 1984 Edison joined the Rock Against Reagan Tour, opening shows in San Francisco, Washington, DC, and Dallas for New York hardcore band Reagan Youth.

In late 1984 he and three NYU classmates formed the New York post-punk band Killdozer 85, who released one self-produced LP entitled “There’s No Mistaking Quality” before changing their band name to Sharky’s Machine in order to avoid confusion with Madison, Wisconsin’s postpunk band Killdozer.

Edison joined the Raunch Hands in early 1990 and accompanied them that year on a tour of Japan, later relocating with them to Madrid, Spain. Now residing in New York City, and Gijon, Spain, the band records and performs only sporadically.

In 1992, while living in Madrid, Edison joined Spanish hardcore punk band The Pleasure Fuckers, and played with them through 1995.

Kenny G signed with Arista Records as a solo artist in 1982, after label president Clive Davis heard his rendition of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”. He has released many solo albums and collaborated with various artists including Andrea Bocelli, Whitney Houston, , Peabo Bryson, Toni Braxton, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Natalie Cole, Steve Miller (which marked the only time he appeared on a rock and roll album), Dudley Moore, Michael Bolton, Celine Dion and Aretha Franklin. Influenced by the likes of saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr. and the lyricism of Barry Manilow, his own albums are usually classified as smooth jazz.

He received success quite early on, with both G Force and Gravity, his second and third studio albums respectively, achieving platinum status in the United States. These sales were topped by his fourth studio album, Duotones, which shifted over five million copies in the U.S. alone. His sixth studio album, Breathless, became the number one best selling instrumental album ever, with over 15 million copies sold, of which 12 million were in the U.S. He broke another record when his first holiday album, Miracles, sold over 13 million copies, making it the most successful Christmas album to date.
