Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band formed in 1967 in London.

The only member present in the band from the very beginning is its namesake drummer, Mick Fleetwood. Despite band founder Peter Greennaming the group by combining his two former bandmates’ surnames (Fleetwood, McVie) (from John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers—it was actually the title Green had given to a demo recording they had recorded while in Mayall’s band), bassist John McVie did not play on their first single nor at their first concerts. Keyboardist Christine McVie has, to date, appeared on all but two albums, either as a member or as a session musician. She also supplied the artwork for the album Kiln House.

The two most successful periods for the band were during the late 1960s British blues boom, when they were led by guitarist Peter Green, and from 1975 to 1987, with more pop-orientation, featuring Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The band enjoyed more modest success in the intervening period between 1971 and 1974, with the line-up including Bob Welch, and also during the 1990s which saw more personnel changes before the return of Nicks and Buckingham in 1997, and more recently, the departure of Christine McVie.

Now back to a trio, and using the Heaven And Earth Magic score as a starting place, Deerhoof began recording a new album in summer 2006. Matsuzaki, Saunier, and Dieterich did not divide their contributions according to their onstage roles, and each contributed percussion, guitar, bass, keyboards and production.  It was mostly recorded in Dieterich’s Oakland apartment, between a concert tour with The Flaming Lips and another with Radiohead. Self-produced as usual, some portions were recorded once again by Jay and Ian Pellicci. It was mixed on computer, largely while on tour. Friend Opportunity was released in January 2007 on Kill Rock Stars.  Its 12 interchangeable cover paintings were by Scottish artist David Shrigley. The album was highly praised in Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, and nominated for a PLUG Award by Ric Ocasek.

During the same time period, they began working with director Justin Theroux on the soundtrack to Dedication, released in fall 2007. Friend Opportunity track “Matchbook Seeks Maniac” was written by Saunier specifically for the end credits of Dedication. The film featured various songs and excerpts from Deerhoof albums, and the Dedication Film Soundtrack featured four tracks by Deerhoof.

During the world tour that followed Friend Opportunity’s release, Deerhoof was invited by David Bowie to play the Highline Festival in New York City. They also opened for The Roots, The Flaming Lips, and Bloc Party, and they made their network television debut on Last Call with Carson Daly.

The music you are about to hear defies categorisation. But for all intents and multi-purposes, this record is a folk album. Embodying all the aesthetic watermarks of a private press country LP, Selda’s debut long player from 1976 has masqueraded as lamb dressed as mutton, throwing many a discerning wolf from the gourmet scent. Behold! Space age, Anatolian, electronic, progressive-protest, psych-folk-funk-rock from the Middle East. All of the above ingredients are presented immaculately with up-most authenticity and conviction to create a delectable hybrid concoction which has never been replicated or equalled in the 3 mutant decades since its recording. -finderskeepersrecords.com

The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in 1965 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band was known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz, psychedelia, space rock and gospel—and for live performances of long musical improvisation. “Their music,” writes Lenny Kaye, “touches on ground that most other groups don’t even know exists.”

The fans of the Grateful Dead, some of whom followed the band from concert to concert for years, are known as “Deadheads”; they are renowned for their dedication to the band’s music. Many fans referred to the band simply as “the Dead”. As of 2003, the remaining band members who had been touring under the name “The Other Ones” changed their official group name to “The Dead”. Deadheads continue to use that nickname to refer to all versions of the band.

The Grateful Dead’s musical influences varied widely; in concert recordings or on record albums one can hear psychedelic rock, blues, rock and roll, country-western, bluegrass, country-rock, and improvisational jazz. These various influences were distilled into a diverse and psychedelic whole that made the Grateful Dead “the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world.”

The Bee Gees are a musical group that was originally made up of a singing trio of brothers — Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their forty years of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a harmonic “soft rock” act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as the foremost stars of the disco music era in the late 1970s. The group sang three-parttight harmonies that were instantly recognisable; brother Robin’s clear vibrato lead was a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry’s R&B falsetto became a signature sound during the disco years. The brothers co-wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.

Born in the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived their first few years in Chorlton, Manchester, England, then moved in the late 1950s to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, where they eventually began their musical careers. After achieving their first chart success in Australia with “Spicks and Specks” (their 12th single), they returned to the United Kingdom in January 1967 where producer Robert Stigwood promoted them to a worldwide audience. It has been estimated that the Bee Gees’ record sales total more than 200 million, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; fittingly, the presenter of the award to “Britain’s first family of harmony” was Brian Wilson, historical leader of the Beach Boys, America’s pre-eminent family of rock harmony whose “vocal harmonies are among the most unmistakable and enduring of the rock and roll era”. The Bee Gees Hall of Famecitation says “Only Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees”.

Following Maurice’s sudden death on 12 January 2003, Barry and Robin Gibb temporarily ended the group after forty-five years of activity. On 7 September 2009, Robin Gibb revealed that he and Barry Gibb had agreed that the Bee Gees would reform and perform again.
